On a Saturday night at midnight, we decided to check out Brian’s children’s hospital. Of course, we all had the same number of reasons for wanting to go, but I think primarily, Kapil wanted to see the fishtank, Thuc wanted the 24/7 ColdStone, and I just wanted to see the building & environment to give me visual context for all of Brian’s work stories.
I’ve realized that I’m very much a visual learner. I have an internal compass when it comes to directions, because I think of each space as a map. I have to copy down diagrams, underline keywords, and write out outlines to be able to digest new material. It takes me a while to read a book, but I can remember anything if it’s in the form of a documentary (…or Tedtalk.) In the same respect, I prefer to have visuals for my stories and experiences, which I guess makes my photography a way that I can celebrate and further my visual thinking.
Oh, my love for environments. So, the next time I ask you if I can see your workplace, your school, or the house you grew up in, now you’ll know why.
